4 YEARS OF KANPUR PLOGGERS: LESSONS FROM THE JOURNEY

Kanpur Ploggers started with a simple idea—PICK UP TRASH, CREATE AWARENESS, and BUILD A COMMUNITY. What began as a small initiative has grown into a MOVEMENT. Today, as we celebrate 4 YEARS and approach 200 WEEKS of non-stop plogging on 23rd March, we reflect on the lessons this journey has taught us.

These learnings go beyond just environmental activism—they apply to LIFE, LEADERSHIP, and the POWER OF COMMUNITY.

  1. SMALL CONSISTENT ACTIONS CREATE BIG IMPACT
Change doesn’t happen overnight. Every Sunday morning, without fail, we showed up. Rain or shine, we picked up trash, planted trees, and inspired others. And here we are—200 WEEKS STRONG. Small, consistent efforts lead to long-term impact.
  2.  SEVA IS POWERFUL
The spirit of selfless service brings benefits beyond material gains. When you serve with no expectations, the universe finds ways to support your mission.
  3.  THE BHAGWAD GEETA IS A LIFE MANUAL
More than just a religious scripture, the Bhagwad Geeta teaches leadership, resilience, and the art of detachment. It has guided us through challenges, keeping our mission clear.
  4. GREAT THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU SURRENDER
When you align with a greater purpose, things fall into place. Trust the process and surrender to the journey.
  5. MONEY IS NOT THE ONLY CURRENCY
Impact, goodwill, trust, and relationships hold more value than money ever could. Build a currency of kindness and credibility.
  6. CREATE MORE LEADERS, NOT FOLLOWERS
A movement can’t survive with just one person. Empower people, delegate responsibilities, and let leadership grow organically.
  7. UNDERSTAND YOUR ROLE IN A LARGER PICTURE
Keep your head down, stay humble, and recognize that you are just an instrument of change. The movement is bigger than any individual.
  8. THE ROLE AND GOAL ARE BIGGER THAN ANY PERSON
Egos should never come in the way of impact. Having systems and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) ensures sustainability.
  9. PEOPLE COME AND GO, YOU ARE YOUR ONLY CONSTANT
Not everyone joins an NGO with selfless intentions. Some come for recognition, networking, or personal gain. Learn to identify them early.
  10. SET YOUR PRINCIPLES STRAIGHT & PRACTICE DEMOCRATIC DECISION-MAKING
Every Tuesday, we hold a weekly online meeting to take collective decisions. This ensures transparency, fairness, and accountability.
  11. TRUST EVERYONE, BUT DON’T BECOME DEPENDENT
Build self-sufficiency within your organization. If a crucial task depends on just one person, it creates instability.
  12. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING
If it’s not recorded, it didn’t happen. Proper documentation ensures clarity, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
  13. FINANCIAL CONTROL SHOULD BE IN LIMITED, RELIABLE HANDS
In 2022, we faced a financial crisis due to a trust breach. A hard lesson, but a necessary one. Be extremely cautious with financial responsibilities.
  14. NEVER GET ATTACHED TO NAME & FAME
Recognition is temporary, but impact is permanent. Stay focused on the work, not the accolades.
  15. NO TASK IS TOO BIG IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT
Every big change starts with a small step. Believe in the mission, take action, and watch the impossible become possible

HERE’S TO MORE YEARS OF IMPACT!
Kanpur Ploggers began with a single act of picking up trash. Today, it stands as a sustainability movement driven by community, consistency, and conscious action.
